Thoughts on Savio Montero Acosta[edit]

Savio Montero Acosta in a nutshell[edit]

Acosta is an expensive melee solo who has a hard time getting to melee without getting killed due to his 5 measly boxes. If he gets to swing, it might be worth what you paid for him. He's free in Storm Division and a Cygnar faction model, so if you ever see him, that's probably where he'll be.

Combos & Synergies[edit]

  • You need to maximize his damage output and ensure he is delivered. Things like Ragman, Positive Charge, Telekinesis, Shae's feat, Storm Rager, Kiss of Lyliss and Macbain's feat help accomplish this. The possibilities are numerous, but the question is whether you want to devote so many resources to a single model?

Drawbacks & Downsides[edit]

  • He can't survive dedicated shooting without some protection.
  • It is unlikely he will survive the turn after he charges.

Tricks & Tips[edit]

  • His walk and shoot range (11") is identical to his charge range, and he is far superior in melee combat. The sole reason to ever use his guns would be if the target is unchargeable or Savio isn't allowed to charge for some reason.

Trivia[edit]

Originally appeared in an Iron Kingdoms Excursions (a collection of short stories by various authors) story by Larry Correia. He later reappeared in Correia's novels "The Malcontents Book One: Into the Storm" and "The Malcontents Book Two: Into the Wild"

Theme Forces[edit]

Mercenary Cygnar (Edit)

Note: When taken in the Storm Division theme, Savio counts as a Cygnar model and he doesn't count against your "up to one Merc solo" allowance.

Rules Clarifications[edit]

Rules Clarification : Electricity - None yet. (Edit)
Rules Clarification : Weapon Master - None yet. (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Dodge      (Edit)

  • Dodge triggers after any missed attack - melee, ranged, or magic.
  • If you shoot at a model with Dodge that's in melee and miss, Dodge will trigger regardless of whether you then hit the random new target or not.
    • The Dodge movement occurs after making the attack against the new target.
  • An enemy model with 2" melee range that is B2B with you before you Dodge, will be exactly 2" away afterwards, and thus will be able to attempt a 2nd melee attack.
  • If you're missed by an AOE attack, but it doesn't deviate very far and still hits you then: Dodge still triggers, but the AOE does damage before you get the Dodge movement. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Dodge plus Riposte (Edit)
    • If a model has both Dodge and Riposte, they are resolved at the same time. You get to choose which order to resolve them in.

Rules Clarification : Riposte      (Edit)

  • You can't resolve Riposte from a free strike because, by definition, the attacker is in your rear arc and thus you can't target them.
  • Dodge plus Riposte (Edit)
    • If a model has both Dodge and Riposte, they are resolved at the same time. You get to choose which order to resolve them in.

Rules Clarification : Vengeance and/or Righteous Vengeance and/or Retaliation and/or Swift Vengeance and/or Tantrum     (Edit)

  • Vengeance moves do not have to be towards an enemy model.
  • You can choose to not move, but still get the attack. One is not conditional on the other.
  • When resolving Vengeance, move all models in the unit before making any attacks. (Infernal Ruling)
    • If you have more than one unit with Vengeance, move all of unit A then complete all of unit A's attacks, before starting to move unit B.
  • Vengeance is not an activation. It does not prevent the unit from activating and acting normally later in the turn.
  • Stationary and knocked down models may not perform Vengeance moves nor attacks.
  • Only enemy attacks trigger Vengeance. There are plenty of ways enemies can damage you without attacking you (such as Electro Leap) and these will not trigger Vengeance.
  • Due to the way it is worded Vengeance can be "inherited" by unit attachments that do not actually have the Vengeance ability themselves. For instance, a Soulless Escort attached to the Spears of Scyrah.
    • If anyone is damaged, including the attachment, everyone in the unit gets to trigger Vengeance.
    • But if everyone is killed except the attachment, then he doesn't get to trigger Vengeance because the rule is "no longer on the table".
