Mercenary, and Minion, Character Unit

Since their mentor’s withdrawal from such pursuits, Lynus Wesselbaum and Edrea Lloryrr have taken the lead in cataloging the wonders of Caen in place of the famous professor Viktor Pendrake. With a strong knack for survival and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, they have already pursued countless dangerous expeditions and shared more than a few close calls, forging a strong friendship in the field. Lynus’ book smarts and sharp memory serve as an excellent complement to Edrea’s arcane gifts, and the pair has made a name for themselves in many academic circles.

Weapons[edit]

Abilities[edit]

  • Lynus
    • Officer - This model is the unit commander even if the unit has a Leader model.
    • Applied Knowledge (★ Action) - Target a warrior model in Lynus' CMD range. For one round, that model gets to choose which column/branch they damage when attacking a warbeast/warjack.
    • First Aid [d3] (★ Action) - Remove d3 damage from a living model in B2B.
  • Edrea
    • Magic Ability [ 7 ] - This model can use its Combat Action to cast spells. Offensive spells are a (★ Attack) and friendly spells are a (★ Action).
      • Wind Barrier (★ Action) - For one round, non-magical ranged attacks that target Edrea automatically miss. This bonus also applies to Lynus while he is completely within 3" of Edrea.
      • Wind Burst (★ Attack) - 10" range, 4" AOE, POW 12 magic attack. Cloud effects overlapping the AOE expire.
      • Zephyr (★ Action) - Everyone in the unit may move a short distance.
    • True Sight - This model ignores clouds for LOS, and ignores Stealth always.

Recent Changes[edit]

2017.12 Blindwater Dynamic Update

They will now work for Crucible Guard or Retribution. Also both other minion pacts.
Lynus' Heal ability was upgraded to First Aid.
Edrea swapped her Arcane Bolt for Wind Burst.

Lynus Wesselbaum & Edrea Lloryrr in a nutshell[edit]

Lynus and Edrea are a strange pair of utility models. Edrea provides exactly one True Sight magic attack per turn that blows up clouds. Lynus has a weak heal and Applied Knowledge is better than it sounds - or can be a shooter.

Combos & Synergies[edit]

  • Any model with Grievous Wounds, especially Alten Ashley. If you can use Applied Knowledge on him, you can easily take out a Warbeast's Spirit and deny it the ability to do anything useful for at least a turn.
  • Any non battle engine War-noun would love Applied Knowledge, especially ones like Captain Kara Sloan with access to multiple attacks per activation.

Drawbacks & Downsides[edit]

  • Edrea is much better than Lynus - she both has true sight and an AoE. For the unit he's decent at two points and she's more than decent at three.

Tricks & Tips[edit]

  • Bring the pair if you are worried about cloud walls - Edrea is very good at clearing them. The pair are adequate if the enemy doesn't have a cloud wall (Edrea especially) but are as much anti-cloud-wall tech as anything.

Rules Clarifications[edit]

Rules Clarification : Animosity      (Edit)

  • When using the Specialist or ADR rules in a Steamroller format, your entire list and the specialists must be a single legally fieldable force (even though you're not fielding it all at once).


Rules Clarification : Officer      (Edit)

  • Even if they're not on the Officer's card, an Officer can give (and benefit from) any non-standard orders that are on the unit's card (such as Shield Wall). Refer main rulebook.
  • When the Officer dies, the Leader model becomes the new Unit Commander (you don't get to choose).
  • But if your unit doesn't include a Leader model, then you do get to choose any of the remaining models to be the new Unit Commander. You don't swap the model, but it may be worth putting a token down so you can tell that grunt apart.

Rules Clarification : Applied Knowledge      (Edit)

  • Attacker chooses column vs Defender chooses column (Edit)
    • When both the attacker and defender have an ability that lets them choose the column that gets damaged, the attacker gets to choose. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Magic Ability      (Edit)

  • Almost every magic ability cannot be used on the same turn you charge. Because a charge must (almost always) be followed by a melee attack.
  • Using a Magic Ability counts as a spell, for effects such as Spell Ward, Witch Hunter, etc.
  • Unlike with warcasters/warlocks, using a Magic Ability is not an "any time" ability. This means:
    • You must complete your movement before you use a MA.
    • You cannot make ranged or melee attacks on the same turn you use a MA.
    • You cannot use a MA on the same turn you charge.
    • (Unless, of course, the rules for the specific MA you're using say you can.)
  • A model in a unit cannot use its Combat Action to cast a spell until all members of the unit have completed their movement. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Wind Barrier      (Edit)

  • "Non-magical ranged attacks" means "Ranged attacks that do not have Damage Type: Magical". (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Wind Burst      (Edit)

  • The Wind Burst AOE has to actually cross the existing cloud - being exactly "base to base" is not overlapping. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Zephyr      (Edit)

  • You cannot use Zephyr until everyone in the unit has moved (as no model in a unit can perform an Action until all models have completed their Move). (Infernal Ruling)
  • You cannot use an Action on the same turn you Run or Charge.(Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : True Sight      (Edit)

  • You only ignore clouds for LOS. Models can still get the concealment bonus, trigger Prowl, etc from clouds. (Infernal Ruling)
  • A model that ignores Stealth must ignore both aspects: both (1) the auto-missing, and (2) the 'not counting as an intervening model' parts.
    • This can have some strange interactions with casters & channelers, if one has True Sight and one does not. There are examples on the Category:Channeler page.
