Houseguard Riflemen
Retribution Houseguard Unit

Companies of riflemen have joined the Retribution in number and serve as the long-reaching line for the army abroad. They wield heavy rifles capable of delivering punishing firepower against the human armies that so greatly outnumber them. Every rifleman is trained to take careful aim and regard each trigger pull as a prospective kill.

Weapons[edit]

  • Everyone except the standard
    • Long Rifle - 14" range, POW 10 gun.
    • Sword - 0.5" reach, P+S 7 melee weapon
  • Standard Bearer
    • Unarmed - This model has no weapons.

Special Abilities[edit]

  • Entire unit
    • Combined Ranged Attack - This unit can combine their ranged attacks to get a cumulative +1 bonus on accuracy and damage for each model involved.
    • Practiced Maneuvers - Each model in this unit can ignore other models in this unit when determining LOS and can advance through them if it has enough movement to move completely past them.
  • Officer only
    • The officer has +1 MAT & RAT
    • Officer - This model is the unit commander even if the unit has a Leader model.
    • Granted: War Tempered - While this model is still alive and in formation all of the unit gains War Tempered. (War-Tempered - Models with War-Tempered can make CRA vs targets in melee. If the attack misses and is randomised vs a new model, participants that would auto-miss the new model do not contribute to the CRA bonus but still forfeit their attacks.)
    • Whites of Their Eyes (Minifeat) - Once per game the unit gains Trained Fire. (Trained Fire - Gain an additional die on ranged attack rolls against targets at close range.)
  • Standard only
    • Standard Bearer - While the standard bearer is within 5" of the unit commander, the commander gains +2 CMD.
    • Take Up - If this model is killed you may instead remove a Grunt within 1". Remove any effects on this model, and apply any effects that were on the old grunt.

Thought on Houseguard Riflemen[edit]

Command Attachment

Houseguard Riflemen in a nutshell[edit]

Houseguard Riflemen, along with the Winter Guard Rifle Corps and the Long Gunners have the longest range in the game among the ranged infantry units. Beside having access to Practiced Manoeuvrers, Khador has weapon attachments to boost the damage output, Cygnar's soldiers sport Dual Fire and some extra mobility with Flawless Manoeuvrers, and Retribution has ways to engage targets in melee. They have superior stats to their competitors, but average troops still don't sweat much about hitting and killing them.

Rules Clarifications[edit]

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Combined Ranged Attack      (Edit)

  • CRA cannot target models in melee, except for huge-based models.
  • Assault & CRA (Edit)
    • You cannot mix Combined Range Attacks with Assault shots, as CRA works during your combat action and Assault shots occur before it. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Practiced Maneuvers - None yet. (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Tactics vs Granted     (Edit)

  • Granted = The unit loses the ability as soon as the model that grants it is taken off the table.
  • Tactics = The unit keeps the ability for the entire game, regardless of who dies.

Rules Clarification : War-Tempered      (Edit)

  • If a CRA against a model in melee misses, after determining the new random target you have to work out your CRA bonus again. ie work out how many participants have the new target in LOS and range, and use that for the revised CRA bonus.
  • If the new target is out of the primary attacker's LOS or range, the shot will just miss. There's no need to work out the revised CRA bonus.

Rules Clarification : Whites of Their Eyes      (Edit)

Restrictions on "Any Time" abilities     (Edit)
  • "Any Time" abilities can be used at any time during a model/unit's activation, except:
    1. The model with the Any Time ability has had their activation end "prematurely". By this I mean you resolve anything which includes "its activation ends". Examples include:
      • Running, failing a charge, or failing a slam.
      • Abilities that include "then its activation ends" (such as Reposition and Teleport).
    2. In between declaring your charge target and making your charge movement. (Infernal Ruling)
    3. In between completing your charge movement and determining whether it was a successful charge. (Infernal Ruling)
    4. You're in the middle of moving. (Note: Impact Attacks count as being in the middle of movement).
    5. You're in the middle of an attack. Note that the attack is not over until you finish step 14 of the attack sequence (Apdx A).
    6. Your opponent interrupted your activation to trigger one of their own abilities, such as Countercharge.
  • In general you can use "Any Time" abilities while you're knocked down or stationary (except Spells and Feats which specify you can't).
  • If you have a gun with a random ROF, you can use an "Any Time" ability inbetween rolling the number of shots and actually making the first attack. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Units with "Any Time" abilities
    • Even if the ability says "any time during the unit's activation", a model in a unit can't use an Any Time ability if they run, fail a charge, or use an ability like Reposition.
    • Because that model's activation has ended (even if the unit's activation is still ongoing) and you can't use abilities on models that are not active.
    • So, for example:
      • You cannot use a minifeat after the Officer runs. (Infernal Ruling)
      • You cannot use a minifeat after anyone in the unit has begun a Reposition move. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Trained Fire - None yet. (Edit)

RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Standard Bearer      (Edit)

  • If the Officer dies, the Standard Bearer can give the CMD bonus to the Leader model.
RC symbol.png

Rules Clarification : Take Up      (Edit)

  • The model taken off the table is effectively killed by Take Up, not the original attack, so it will stop abilities like Berserk and Killing Spree. (Locked thread)
