Glacier King

Trollblood Gargantuan Warbeast

Unearthed by Hoarluk Doomshaper, the glacier kings walk the world again as embodiments of winter and the frozen north. Localized storms laden with ice and snow swirl about their towering forms. Streams and lakes ice over at their passing, and the moisture in the air crackles as it freezes. Enemies who lose their footing nearby are promptly crushed to death or frozen solid before being lofted into a mouth of jagged, yellowed teeth.

This model's rules are currently under development
This model is part of the current CID cycle (What is CID?) and the information shown below does not necessarily represent its final ruleset.

This is a existing model, and the information here is the rules it had before the CID cycle. If you wish to document the CID changes before they're finalised, please do so under the Recent Changes heading.

Weapons[edit]

  • Wind Thrower - 12" range, POW 14 ranged attack.
    • Damage Type: Cold - This weapon does cold damage.
    • Reload [2] - This model can spend focus/fury/soul tokens to make up to 2 additional ranged attacks with this weapon during its Combat Action. It can make one additional attack for each focus/fury/soul token spent.
    • Thunderbolt - Enemy models hit by this attack are pushed a small distance directly away. On a critical they are knocked down as well.
  • Big Meaty Fist (x2) - 2" reach, P+S 19 melee weapons

Abilities[edit]

  • Gargantuan - Gargantuans are giant warbeasts, even bigger and stompier than normal. They all share a stack of standard special rules.
  • Immunity: Cold - This model does not suffer cold damage.
  • Pathfinder - This model treats rough terrain as open terrain while advancing. While charging, slam power attacking, or trample power attacking, this model does not stop its movement when it contacts an obstacle.
  • Bulldoze - When this model is B2B with an enemy model during its Normal Movement, it can push that model up to 2" directly away from it. A model can be pushed by Bulldoze only once per activation. Bulldoze has no effect when this model makes a trample power attack.
  • Snacking - If this model boxes a living model with an attack it may optionally remove it from play and heal d3 damage points.
  • Snowfall - Friendly faction models gain concealment when nearby.

Animus[edit]

Frozen Ground - An enemy model without Cold Immunity becomes Knocked Down when ending it's activation nearby.

Recent Changes[edit]

2017.07 Trollkin CID

Became a Northkin model, allowing it into the Theme.

Thoughts on Glacier King[edit]

Glacier King in a nutshell[edit]

Like most Colossals the Glacier King is a centrepiece of the army. In the Mountain King's case the Mountain King should be leading from the front with a smash and a roar - the Glacier King is for a much longer ranged army, keeping its troops safe from direct return fire by giving them concealment.

Combos & Synergies[edit]

Drawbacks & Downsides[edit]

  • No damage buff
  • Low threshold meaning frequent frenzies.

Rules Clarifications[edit]

Rules Clarification : Cold - None yet. (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Reload      (Edit)

  • You can use Reload to make additional attacks after a Special Ranged Attack. (Infernal Ruling)
  • If you have (x2) of a weapon with Reload (such as Caine1), the special rule will only be written on the card once. But you can reload both weapons to the max limit. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Thunderbolt      (Edit)

  • If you have multiple effects that resolve on "hit" (such as Thunderbolt & Electro Leap), then you get to choose the order.
    • Thus, you could trigger Electro Leap first (and bounce from their initial position), then move them via Thunderbolt.
    • Or trigger Thunderbolt first, move them, and then Electro Leap (and bounce from their final position).
  • Push (Edit)
    • Pushed models do not change their facing.
    • Pushed models move at half rate through difficult terrain. Also, Pathfinder doesn't apply during pushes.
    • Pushed models stop if they contact anything - a model of any size, or any obstacles or obstructions.
    • You don't get free strikes against pushed models, because it is "involuntary movement" and therefore does not count as an advance.
    • Pushed models suffer the effects of anything they move through (such as acid clouds
    • If you use a Push vs a charging model (via a free strike for example), this will stop the charge movement (refer core rulebook).
      • However, if the pushed model is in melee range of its charge target after the push, then it is considered a successful charge. (Infernal Ruling)
      • In that scenario, you measure whether the charging model moved 3" or less excluding the push distance. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Knockdown (Edit) - Remember, knockdown only prevents what it says it does. Refer to the Knockdown page for a recap of what a model can/can't do.

Rules Clarification : Open Fist (aka, Power Attack Throw)     (Edit)

  • See the Throw article for a recap of the core Throw rules.
  • When you make a Throw Power Attack, no other abilities of the Fist weapon (such as Chain Strike) are applied unless they specifically mention Throws.
  • If you do a Power Attack Throw and you choose to throw the target directly away, no deviation is rolled to determine the final position of the model. (Locked thread)
  • A model that cannot be targeted by melee attacks (such as Una2's feat) cannot have models thrown at them, either. (Infernal Ruling)
  • Unresolved: Since throwing Model [A] at Model [B] involves making a melee attack vs Model [B] which is out of your melee range, it technically breaks a whole bunch of core rules. The Infernals are currently checking it.

Rules Clarification : Freeze      (Edit)

  • Remember Stationary only prevents what it says it does. Refer the page on Stationary for a refresher.

Rules Clarification : Gargantuan      (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Pathfinder      (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Bulldoze      (Edit)

  • Refer to the Bulldoze page for the clarifications - it was too long a list to repeat here.

Rules Clarification : Snacking      (Edit)

  • Snacking occurs at boxed, and thus:
    • Doesn't prevent abilities that trigger at disabled (such as Tough, Self-Sacrifice, etc).
    • Might prevent abilities that trigger at boxed, depending on who the active player is and whose model the ability triggered on. Refer the 'Triggers' section (pg 10 of the pdf)
    • Does prevent abilties that trigger at destroyed (such as reaving fury from dead warbeasts, collecting soul tokens, etc)
  • You can snack friendly models.
  • You may choose where each individual point of healing goes.
  • If you kill multiple models with a single attack (such as trampling over them) then you get to heal once for each model killed.

Rules Clarification : Snowfall      (Edit)

  • Placeholder

Rules Clarification : Frozen Ground      (Edit)

  • Knockdown (Edit) - Remember, knockdown only prevents what it says it does. Refer to the Knockdown page for a recap of what a model can/can't do.
