Weapons & Attacks[edit]

  • Sickle Staff - 2" reach, P+S 13 melee weapon
    • Damage Type: Magical - This weapon can damage incorporeal models.
    • Blood Boon - If this weapon kills an enemy, this model can cast an average cost or less spell for free. Blood Boon can only trigger once per activation.

Special Abilities[edit]

  • Warcaster - This model comes with a bunch of special rules, most notably being really awesome at everything.
  • Apparition - This model may be placed a short distance from its current location during the Control Phase.
  • Field Marshal [Retaliatory Strike] - Warbeasts/warjacks in this model's battlegroup gain Retaliatory Strike.
  • Retaliatory Strike - Once per turn when an enemy hits this model in melee, it can hit back. Once.

Spells[edit]

  • Boundless Charge - Low cost, low range spell. Friendly Faction model gains increased charge range, Pathfinder, and can charge for free.
  • Convection - Cost 2, range 10, POW 12 offensive spell. When Convection destroys a living enemy model, you can give 1 focus point to a warjack in the spellcaster's battlegroup that is in its control range.
  • Marked for Death - COST 2, Range 8 offensive upkeep. Affected model/unit suffers -2 DEF and loses Incorporeal and Stealth and can never have either while affected.
  • Scything Touch - COST 2, RNG 6, UPKEEP
Target friendly Faction model gains Dark Shroud. (Dark Shroud - While in this model's melee range, enemy models suffer -2 ARM.)
  • Teleport - RNG SELF spell that allows the spellcaster to be placed completely within a reasonable range. Then its activation ends.

Feat[edit]

  • Closing Darkness - Friendly models/units in her control range gain Ghostly and are affected by Boundless Charge (see above). (Ghostly - This model ignores terrain and free strikes.)

Thoughts on Elara, Death's Shadow[edit]

Important
This model has only recently been released, and the content in the "Thoughts On" section is based more on theory-machine than actual gameplay experience.

Feel free to remove this warning if you, personally:

  • Have a good level of gameplay experience with the model, and
  • Have reviewed this article and either you
    • agree with the content 100% or,
    • for the parts you disagree with, you don't strongly disagree; and it's more a case of differing opinions between you and previous editors rather than incorrect content / bad advice.

Elara, Death's Shadow in a nutshell[edit]

Elara is a straight-forward "in you face" type of caster. She has no means to protect her Army, but she has the ability to get to the opponent fast with Boundless Charge, which also is a Pathfinder option. Scything touch offers a Damage-fixer while Marked for Death is a hitbuff.

Rules Clarifications[edit]

Rules Clarification : Feat: Closing Darkness

  • Non-faction models are affected by Boundless Charge under her feat, because the "target friendly Faction" only applies when you cast the spell (whereas the feat doesn't have a target). (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Warcaster or Warlock     (Edit)

  • Please refer to the Warcasters & Warlocks page for a recap of the warcaster rules, and the very few associated rules clarifications.

Rules Clarification : Magical Damage      (Edit)

  • The "Damage Type: Magical" is not inherited by "secondary" damage from a weapon such as arcs (Electro Leap) or hazards (Scather). (Infernal Ruling)
  • All spells have "Damage Type: Magical" (refer latest errata).
    • This is inherited by "immediate" secondary damage (such as Eruption of Spines) ... [Verification needed]
    • ... but not by "lingering" secondary damage (such as the cloud left by Breath of Corruption). [Verification needed]
  • If a weapon/spell includes Magic Damage and another kind of elemental damage it can still damage Incorporeal models. They're not affected by the rule "if an attack does multiple types of damage and a model is immune to at least one it is immune to the entire attack.
The phrase "immune to non-magical damage" should be intrepreted as "immune to damage that doesn't include Damage Type: Magical" (not as "has immunity to Corrosion and Electricity and Cold and etc.")

Rules Clarification : Blood Boon      (Edit)

  • Blood Boon doesn't interact with abilities that change the COST of a spell. This is based on the similar ruling between Geomancy and Scaverous (Link to related Infernal Ruling)
    • For instance, if you trigger Blood Boon while being affected by Lamentation then you can still cast a COST 3 spell (even though if you spent focus to do the same thing it would cost you 6 focus).

Rules Clarification : Apparition      (Edit)

  • If a model is B2B with you when you use Apparition then they will be exactly 2" away afterwards. So you can't get away from 'long reach' melee weapons.

Rules Clarification : Field Marshal      (Edit)

  • Field marshal only grants the ability to warjacks in the battlegroup, so (normally) the warcaster does not have the Field Marshal ability.
  • However if it is listed on the caster's card separately, such as on Magnus2, then they do have it. (Closed thread)

Rules Clarification : Retaliatory Strike      (Edit)

  • "Basic melee attack" also includes Mount Attacks. Refer to the definition of 'Basic Attack' in the rulebook.

Rules Clarification : Boundless Charge      (Edit)

  • Pathfinder (Edit) - Pathfinder doesn't apply to involuntary movement (i.e. when you're pushed or slammed).

Rules Clarification : Convection      (Edit)

  • A warjack can benefit from Convection multiple times.
  • A warjack cannot go over its normal focus limit (which is 3 for most jacks) as a result of Convection. Refer to the Cortex rules.

Rules Clarification : Marked for Death - None yet. (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Scything Touch      (Edit)

  • Mk3 change: Scything Touch only affects a single model (not model/unit)

Rules Clarification : Dark Shroud      (Edit)

  • Dark Shroud only applies to your melee range, and this doesn't includes behind you. Refer to the latest errata. This is a reversal of an earlier ruling.
  • The ARM debuff still applies during a free strike.

Rules Clarification : Teleport - None yet. (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Ghostly      (Edit)

  • Ghostly doesn't let you move through other models, just terrain.
  • Ghostly doesn't let you ignore damage from hazardous terrain. (Infernal Ruling)
