Abilities[edit]

  • Mercenary - will work for as a Cryx mercenary, Cygnar mercenary, Khador mercenary, and as a Protectorate of Menoth mercenary.
  • Tough - When this model is disabled, roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, remove 1 damage point from this model; it is no longer disabled and becomes knocked down. While knocked down this model loses Tough.
  • Artillerist (★ Action) - Target friendly faction model gains a bonus to RAT on its next AoE ranged attack. It can re-roll deviation if it does not directly hit.
  • Double Powder Ration (Minifeat) - Dougal can use this once per game during his activation. While in his CMD range, friendly Privateer models gain +2 RNG on their ranged attacks. Lasts for one turn.
  • Hit the Deck! - Dougal cannot be hit by AOEs. If he would be hit by an AOE, he gets knocked down instead. While knocked down, ranged attacks targeting him auto-miss.
  • Veteran Leader [Sea Dog Deck Gun] - While in this model's CMD range, other friendly Sea Dog Deck Gun models gain +1 to attack rolls.

Thoughts on Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile[edit]

Master Gunner Dougal MacNaile in a nutshell[edit]

Dougal Macnaile is a ranged support solo who will spend most of his time using Artillerist on a ranged warjack. His Double Powder Ration ability assists with ranged alpha strikes in privateer armies and is his main selling point. his Veteran Leader ability would be more useful if Sea Dog Deck Guns weren't so lousy.

Combos & Synergies[edit]

Drawbacks & Downsides[edit]

  • Support Bloat - it's easy to use up too many of your army points on support models like this guy.

Tricks & Tips[edit]

  • Artillerist is most useful on turns 1 and possibly 2. After that he can get stuck in with the Quad Iron.

Rules Clarifications[edit]

Rules Clarification : Double Powder Ration      (Edit)

  • There is a typo in the rule: The sentence that starts "This activation, ranged attacks made by ..." makes no sense.
  • The general consensus is that it should instead be "During their activations, ranged attacks made by ..."
Restrictions on "Any Time" abilities (Edit)
  • "Any Time" abilities can be used at any time during a model/unit's activation, except:
    1. The model with the Any Time ability has had their activation end "prematurely". By this I mean you resolve anything which includes "its activation ends". Examples include:
      • Running, failing a charge, or failing a slam.
      • Abilities that include "then its activation ends" (such as Reposition and Teleport).
    2. You're in the middle of moving. (Note: Impact Attacks count as being in the middle of movement).
    3. You're in the middle of an attack. Note that the attack is not over until you finish step 14 of the attack sequence (Apdx A).
    4. Your opponent interrupted your activation to trigger one of their own abilities, such as Countercharge.
  • In general you can use "Any Time" abilities while you're knocked down or stationary (except Spells and Feats which specify you can't).
  • Units
    • Even if the ability says "any time during the unit's activation", a model in a unit can't use an Any Time ability if they run, fail a charge, or use an ability like Reposition.
    • Because that model's activation has ended (even if the unit's activation is still ongoing) and you can't use abilities on models that are not active.
    • So, for example:
      • You cannot use a minifeat after the Officer runs. (Infernal Ruling)
      • You cannot use a minifeat after anyone in the unit has begun a Reposition move. (Infernal Ruling)

Rules Clarification : Tough - None yet. (Edit)
Rules Clarification : Artillerist - None yet. (Edit)
Rules Clarification : Hit the Deck! - None yet. (Edit)

Rules Clarification : Veteran Leader      (Edit)

  • The bonus doesn't normally apply to the model giving out the buff, because it (normally) specifies "other models within ...".
  • Although if you have two models giving out the buff, then they can give it to each other. (Locked thread)

Rules Clarification : Cumbersome - None yet. (Edit)
