Black Ogrun Smog Belchers
Cryx Black Ogrun Unit

Smog belchers are black ogrun who wield heavy culverin-style cannons. Smog belcher weapons are crafted by skilled ironmongers, black ogrun metalsmiths who fuse their craft with rituals of bloodletting and dark magic. From the deck of a Cryxian vessel, smog belchers lay down a barrage of fire, filling the air with a lingering cloud of corrupting ash that rots flesh and blisters the lungs of anyone who breathes it.

Weapons[edit]

  • Smog Belcher - 12" range, 3" AOE, POW 13 gun
    • Damage Type: Magical - This weapon can damage incorporeal models.
    • Arcing Fire - When attacking with this weapon, this model can ignore intervening models except those within 1" of the target.
    • Choking Ash - On a direct hit, living warrior models hit by the AOE cannot run or charge for one round, unless the can ignore gas effects.
  • Hand Weapon - 1" reach, P+S 13 melee weapon

Abilities[edit]

  • Tough - When this model is disabled, roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, remove 1 damage point from this model; it is no longer disabled and becomes knocked down. While knocked down this model loses Tough.
  • Smoke Cloud - Center a 3" AOE cloud effect on the Smog Belcher when it makes a ranged attack. The cloud remains in play for one round.

Thoughts on Black Ogrun Smog Belchers[edit]

Recent Release
This model/theme has only recently been released, and the content in the "Thoughts On" section is based more on theory-machine than actual gameplay experience.

Feel free to remove this warning if you, personally, have a good level of gameplay experience with the model, have reviewed this article, and either you A) agree with the content 100% or B) for the parts you disagree with, you don't strongly disagree; and it's more a case of differing opinions between you and previous editors rather than incorrect content / bad advice.

Black Ogrun Smog Belchers in a nutshell[edit]

The mobile artillery of the Slaughter Fleet Raiders, the Smog Belchers bring powerful ranged attacks to the theme force. Smog Belchers bring a substantial amount of control against living warrior models, and their smoke clouds can help protect warcasters and support models that position behind them.

Combos & Synergies[edit]

  • Any warcaster that doesn't want to be shot off the table, they can stand behind these guys for a bit of LOS-blocking.
  • Casters with Mortality, Parasite, or Calamity to pump their damage output.
  • Axiara can give them Prowl (making them invisible in their clouds) or Reposition (to hide behind their own clouds).

Drawbacks & Downsides[edit]

  • Relatively costly and inaccurate shots (without buffs).
  • Despite having boxes, they die pretty fast.

Tricks & Tips[edit]

  • Don't forget they'll nearly always have +2 DEF from standing in their own clouds. If you don't need to run/charge, make sure you shoot (even if no one is evenly remotely in range).

Rules Clarifications[edit]

Rules Clarification:  : Magical Damage      (Edit)
(Click Expand to read)

* The "Damage Type: Magical" is not inherited by "secondary" damage from a weapon. That is, stuff like arcs (Electro Leap) or hazards (Scather). (Infernal Ruling)
  • All spells have "Damage Type: Magical" (refer errata).
    • This is inherited by "immediate" secondary damage (such as Eruption of Spines). (Infernal Ruling)
    • and might be inherited by "lingering" secondary damage (see below).
  • If a spell leaves a template in play that does damage to models that walk around in it, then:
    • if it is not described as a hazard it will do magical damage to models that walk around in it. (Example: Razor Wall)
    • if it is a hazard then it will not do magical damage to models that walk around in it. Instead, it does whatever damage type is specified by the spell description. (Example: Breath of Corruption).
    • (Infernal Ruling)
  • If a weapon/spell includes Magic Damage and another kind of elemental damage it will still damage Incorporeal models. Incorporeal models are not affected by the rule "if an attack does multiple types of damage and a model is immune to at least one it is immune to the entire attack."
The phrase "immune to non-magical damage" should be interpreted as "immune to damage that doesn't include Damage Type: Magical" (not interpreted as "has immunity to Corrosion and Electricity and Cold and etc.")
